A Consultant’s Dream Job
For more than 20 years now, I have had the pleasure of offering my services as a consultant to Children’s Literacy Publications, founded by Janet Caruthers. Janet, in addition to being my best friend, has a unique method of teaching reading skills to children and adults. She has authored and published several successful books explaining her methods. Working with Janet has brought me great satisfaction, as well as an education in the makeup of words, as I produced graphic images for the lessons and covers for a few of her books. One of the great advantages I gained was continually testing my knowledge of Adobe Photoshop to meet her high standards of perfection. While I greatly enjoyed working with Janet on her books, the greatest personal benefit was my educational growth from our association.
The publishing company, Children’s Literacy Publications (CLP), was founded in 2001 by Janet Caruthers, Ed.S. (Educational Specialist in reading). It was established after Janet, a teacher, became aware of the significant gap in basic vocabulary evident in her students and others. The books CLP publishes all focus on building vocabulary in infants through adults. Janet's education, combined with her 29 years as a teacher in Title 1 schools (including serving as an Academic Intervention Specialist), has given her firsthand knowledge of what children really need to know to become successful readers.
